Located in the south of Playa del Carmen, Playacar Beach is a large stretch of white sand and possibly the most beautiful of the beaches on this list. Los Fundadores Park is perhaps the most iconic beach in Playa del Carmen; you'll recognize the gateway to it by the gigantic arch of Playa del Carmen. There are no beach clubs on the Parque Los Fundadores beach, but it's so close to 5th Avenue that you can find some food or drink if you're hungry. There are also a lot of amazing food stalls here, so definitely plan on having a cold coconut or some grilled corn.
Located 19 km (11 km) from downtown Playa del Carmen, Playa Maroma is a beautiful wide beach with a variety of activities. Sure, it's a little out of the way when compared to some of the more central beaches on this list, but visiting Playa Maroma is worth it for the water sports, tranquility, and mostly white sand without seaweed. The waters here are ideal for swimming, and catamaran excursions, snorkeling and diving are offered. However, because Playa Maroma is firmly located in the tourist area of Playa del Carmen, it is considered a “public beach with private access”.
