Tulum offers unique accommodations in treehouses, beachside cabins and eco-friendly cabins between the beach and the wild jungle. Somewhere in the middle of the two is Playa del Carmen, where the party scene is much stronger and the main street is now teeming with designer brands and shopping malls. Playa del Carmen is in a great location if you want to explore several different destinations during your trip, however, it's increasingly overcrowded with tourists and Western brands. For a more authentic experience in Mexico, I would definitely recommend visiting Isla Mujeres or Tulum for your stay.
