Is Playa Mujeres North Or South Of Cancun?

No, in the opposite direction if you take Cancun as a starting point. Puerto Morelos is south of Cancún, Playa Mujeres is to the north. About 20 miles north of Cancun, Isla Blanca is a small stretch of land with a narrow sandbank and a very low altitude above sea level. To the east, the island borders the Caribbean Sea, while to the west, Isla Blanca borders the waters of the Chakmochuk Lagoon, a reef is located less than a mile or 1550 meters from this wonderful island.

Although not really an island, Isla Blanca to the north is south of Cancun and Isla Holbox. Here you can swim in the Chakmochuk Lagoon, which is located on the east side. The area is served by a road that is in good condition. And also an excellent opportunity for a day trip from Cancun.

Most of the fishing is done from the boat and throughout the year you can find Snook, Barracuda, Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon. Playa Norte is at the northern end of Isla Mujeres. Isla Mujeres is just off the coast of Cancun. The island can be easily reached by ferry from two points in Cancun (see below for more information).

Playa Mujeres is located just outside the Cancun Hotel Zone and a few miles northeast of Cancun on the road to Isla Blanca, in the continental district of the Municipality of Isla Mujeres, beyond Puerto Juárez and Punta Sam. If you head south from the hotel zone, you reach Riviera Cancun, a long stretch of coastline where Cancun's largest resorts are located, with white sand beaches, eco-adventure parks and cenotes (natural pools) that dot the mangrove jungles.

A reservation at any of these adults-only resorts places guests in a prime location to visit Isla Mujeres, a Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea. The ADO bus station here serves routes to Playa del Carmen, Tulum and even Chichén Itzá, while the Puerto Juarez ferry terminal connects El Centro to Isla Mujeres. The beaches here have soft sand and gentle waves, as Isla Mujeres protects Playa Mujeres from the strongest winds, but algae tend to accumulate here (hotels are great at keeping it at bay with sweepers twice a day). The newest resort, Playa Mujeres, is located north of Cancun's established hotel zone, immediately west of Isla Mujeres Island.
